💀Black Cake Season 2: Cancelled 💀
Black Cake Cancelled After One Season 💔
Hulu has cancelled Black Cake after just one season. The news, while disappointing for fans, doesn’t come as a huge shock since it’s been nearly 10 months since Season 1 concluded on the streaming platform without any word on renewal. The drama, starring Adrienne Warren and Mia Isaac, earned critical acclaim and scored multiple award nominations, but it wasn’t enough to secure a second chapter. 📉
This cancellation wraps up the fate of the series, which had been hanging in the balance for months. Created by Women of the Movement’s Marissa Jo Cerar and produced by Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films alongside Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Black Cake showed a lot of promise early on. Based on Charmaine Wilkerson’s bestselling novel, it quickly garnered a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes and received NAACP Image Awards nominations for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Writing in a Dramatic Series for Cerar. Just recently, Cerar also took home a Humanitas Prize for Drama Teleplay, adding to the show’s accolades. 🏆
Is There Hope for a Season 2 Rescue? 🔄👀
There were whispers that Black Cake might find a new home elsewhere. At one point, Netflix reportedly expressed interest in picking up the series. However, in the current competitive streaming landscape, moving a series from one major platform to another is rare and fraught with complications. So, despite the accolades and the brief glimmer of hope, Black Cake won’t be back for Season 2. 🚫
It’s a tough ending for a series that had such a strong start. With a compelling narrative weaving together family secrets, identity, and cultural heritage, Black Cake stood out in Hulu’s catalog. But as it stands, Season 1 will be its first and only chapter.
What are your thoughts on the cancellation of Black Cake – were you hoping for a 2nd season, or are you content with it being a one-and-done?
